Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Reproductive Gynecology Laboratories offer comprehensive, state of the art, reproductive laboratory services, including the latest innovations in Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART).

The members of RGL’s staff are truly “specialists” in Assisted Reproductive Technologies. The staff has more than 20 combined years of specialized training and experience in reproductive laboratory testing and procedures.

RGL works with Reproductive Endocrinologists, Obstetrician / Gynecologists, Urologists, Oncologists, and Primary Care Physicians to provide their patients with the specialized laboratory services they require.

RGL works with patients who are trying to become pregnant, those patients who no longer want to be able to reproduce, and patients who want to preserve their ability to reproduce for the future.

Laboratory Appointments

RGL offers laboratory services 7 days a week, 364 days a year, however, certain procedures and tests are only offered on specific days. All patients must have an appointment to have laboratory tests and procedures performed.

Assisted Reproductive Technologies

RGL, in conjunction with Dr. Richard Moretuzzo, Dr. David Nash, Dr. Priya B. Maseelall, MD, Dr. Summer L. James, MD and Dr. Stephen Mooney (Reproductive Gynecology, Inc.(RGI)), Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologists, offers the latest innovations in ART.

These techniques include:

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): Following stimulation with fertility medications, eggs (oocytes) are removed from the ovaries. Eggs and sperm are mixed together in the laboratory to facilitate fertilization of the eggs. Developing embryos are transferred back into the woman’s uterus.

IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): A single sperm is microsurgically injected directly into an oocyte (egg). This technique can be used in men with extremely low sperm counts, men whose sperm have failed to fertilize their partner’s eggs, or even men who have had a vasectomy.

(Figure 1) Assisted Hatching (AH): A small section of the embryo’s outer “shell” is microsurgically removed to improve the embryo’s chance of implanting in the uterus. All embryos must leave this outer covering prior to implantation.

(Figure 2) Blastocyst Culture and Transfer: Embryos can now
be cultured until they reach the blastocyst stage of development (stage necessary for implantation to occur). Transferring blastocysts allows pregnancy rates to stay high while transferring fewer embryos and reducing the risk of multiple gestations.

Advances and innovations in the field of ART are allowing more couples to conceive, utilizing these techniques, than ever before. In the year 2000, RGL’s clinical pregnancy rate for IVF was 53%.

Andrology Laboratory

RGL’s Andrology Laboratory offers diagnostic testing services and clinical laboratory procedures for those patients trying to conceive, as well as follow up testing for patients following vasectomy. RGL assists patients in preserving their reproductive potential by freezing sperm prior to vasectomy. In addition, RGL works with oncologists and their patients to allow them to preserve their ability to reproduce by freezing sperm prior to chemo and radiation therapy.

Services Provided:

Semen Analysis
Post Vasectomy Sperm Count
Sperm “Washing” for Insemination
Standard Sperm Morphology
Strict “Kruger” Morphology
Antisperm Antibody Testing
Sperm Function Tests
Sperm Freezing Prior to Vasectomy
Oncology Patients Prior to Chemo or Radiation Therapy.

Sperm Processing & Freezing from:

Epididymal Specimens (MESA)
Testicular Specimens (TESE)
*All Andrology Laboratory Patients must have a physician’s order in the form of a prescription or lab requisition and an appointment for testing.
